August was definitely an eventful month! To end things right, Jon whisked me away to Charleston to celebrate our 5 monthiversary! Jon booked a room at the Hampton Inn in North Charleston about a week in advance. Little did we know, Hurricane Irene was starting to form. The original word was that she was heading straight for Charleston. As the week progressed, getting closer to the weekend, she was avoiding Charleston and heading for North Carolina. We were unable to cancel the trip, so we packed our umbrella instead of sunscreen and hoped the weather channel was right. We arrived Saturday around 2:30 PM, and to our surprise, not a cloud was in sight! It was certainly a beautiful weekend to be there. We spent the day walking around downtown through a few of the shops on King Street and through the market. We cooled off with Charleston Ice. It was SO yummy! Around evening time, we headed to Isle of Palms and walked along the beach. We collected seashells and enjoyed the beachy breeze. We checked in our hotel and went out for a late dinner at the Noisy Oyster in North Charleston. We had the "Steam Pot," which was filled with crab legs, oysters, clams, and shrimp all cooked in a tomato and potato broth. It was delicious! We were a little nervous when our waitress brought out all of the utensils, but we made it through the meal like professionals. On Sunday, we headed for the beach. We walked on the beach craving a tan, and walked off the beach quite red and toasty [remember that part about packing the umbrella instead of the sunscreen? yea.. ha]. We ate lunch at Coconut Joes for lunch, walked along the beach one last time, and then headed home to Greenville. Jon already had Monday off, and I decided to take the day off as well. It was nice just to have a day to relax together. With Jon working a lot of Saturdays now, we don't really have many afternoons together. It was certainly a wonderful weekend, and I am so thankful Jon was adventurous enough to plan the whole thing!

family, nana, & extreme (town) home makeover

Our weekend was slammed pack with some good family times.  I had the opportunity to finally meet more of Val's cousins, their spouses, and children. Other than Nana's siblings, I have officially met the entire Spooner clan.

Everyone, immediate and extended family, came to see Nana this weekend.  We all surprised her by cramming into her small hospital room (24 of us), singing happy birthday, and delivering cake and an oversized Hallmark card.  Nana will turn 79 on Friday!  It was wonderful seeing her smile and in good spirits.

(round of applause for a wonderful birthday song)

(a very proud great grandmother with "that cute lil' blonde headed baby")

(yes, they are all with us)

My parents, also, came into town today to deliver furniture. My grandmother's house recently sold and now all the furniture is being disbursed between family members. Val and I were lucky to snag her kitchen table; and since my parents replaced one of their bedroom suits with one from Ma's home, they brought us their extra bed frame and mattress set (both of which have not been used but a handful of times...mainly by us).

So (hence the name of this post), we had a little home update today.  It may not be a Hampton, but we like it.

Thanks, Mom & Dad for bringing all of these wonderful additions to us today!
